Senior

The Senior division encompasses Grades 9 to 12.

The MacLachlan student enters the formal Ontario credit system in grade 9. These are crucial years in establishing their academic record that will govern their university and career paths. The critical nature of these years is fully understood by the Upper School MacLachlan faculty. All teachers share the desire for their students to have a successful high school experience, both academically and personally.

Students in grades 9 and 10 follow a prescribed curriculum of mandatory courses. During these years they will begin to define the areas of specialization that they wish to pursue.

In grades 11 and 12, students will continue with some areas of mandatory study that are prerequisites for entry into university but they will be offered a range of electives from which they may choose. Their course options are tempered with a robust array of enriching opportunities in the arts, humanities and sciences. Advanced Placement university acceleration courses, national and international public speaking and debating competition as well as outdoor education opportunities are popular endeavours in which the MacLachlan student engages. The skills each student has developed in Information Technology and Robotics are applied to dynamic enterprises such as designing "De Rebus", MacLachlan's yearbook, and building and programming a Mars Rover.

Guidance and career counseling become critical elements as students begin to define their aspirations and make their university choices. Every student is provided with expert mentoring and guidance from MacLachlan Faculty members during this pivotal phase of their education.
