Primary

Our Primary division encompasses Pre-Kindergarten to grade 3.

Children's early learning experiences have a profound effect on their development, thus an excellent beginning to formalized education is a prerequisite for all children. Our Primary children are provided with a rich opportunity to gain the necessary skills which will place little feet firmly on the path to academic success and healthy personal growth.

We view these precious early years at school as an extension of the family. We understand the importance of working with parents to gain insight and their personal perspectives of their child, expecting, allowing and appreciating individual differences. Our commitment to open communication, collaborative problem solving and decision making between administrators, teachers and parents is a hallmark of our approach to education in the primary grades.

We embrace the following concepts to ensure that parents have complete confidence in the education we offer their children:

  • Focus on the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development
  • Respect each child's individuality
  • Ensure the provision of experiences that promote feelings of success, competence and enjoyment of learning
  • Foster children's exploration and inquiry
  • Commit to the concepts of Living, Loving and Learning along with the three "R"s, ensuring a sound foundation for a challenging academic programme
  • Foster the parent-child relationship as well as relationships with peers and other adults by supporting the child in his or her efforts and later allowing the child to function independently
  • Employ only Ontario accredited, dedicated and experienced teachers who take pride in understanding the concepts of early childhood education

The curriculum in the early years is built upon the following concepts:

  • Provide an organized framework, identifying parametres that delineate content and process through which children learn
  • Create an environment that is positive and encouraging, one that allows and appreciates individual differences
  • Offer a curriculum, which recognizes that the child of today is ready to participate in formal learning and respond to the challenge of learning the skills that are necessary to establish a firm base for smooth transition to subsequent grades
  • Recognize that conceptual learning skills and development of higher-order thinking skills is a critical component in early childhood education
  • Recognize problem-solving abilities are key to setting the standard for the young child’s learning curve and experience
  • Promote interactive learning that facilitates the child’s construction of knowledge
  • Embody an awareness of the ability of even very young children to respond to high expectations of performance and achievement when presented within a positive and encouraging framework
  • Expose children to exciting state-of-the art learning tools and concepts such as SMARTboards, information technology and robotics.
