Outdoor education activities are an integral component of the holistic education offered at MacLachlan. Students are provided with opportunities for such endeavours as spring and winter camping expeditions, canoeing, hiking, technical rock climbing and dog sledding.
MacLachlan is a member school of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme. This prestigious Awards system was established on an international basis by the Duke of Edinburgh and is offered to young people between the ages of 14 and 25. There are four areas of endeavour in the Award: Service; Expedition/Exploration; Skills and Physical Fitness. Students work through three levels of increasingly rigorous requirement: Bronze; Silver and Gold. Designed to develop independence, resourcefulness, courage, initiative, endurance and perseverance, it provides a unique opportunity for MacLachlan students to develop into people who “make a difference".
